This year is the occasion of the Women’s Club’s 50th Annual Antique Show. Mark the date – Tuesday, August 6th from 10:00am until 4:00pm. The set-up for the show will be the preceding Monday, August 5th. A committee consisting of Joan Astrom, Donna Falor, Linda Gwilt, Joann Leal, Jolene Michaels, Cathy Paquet, Margaret Paquet, Tory Willoughby, and Marcia Wyderko has been established to make special plans for this event. Anyone interested in joining this team is more than welcome.

1969 was a memorable year – On July 20th, one of man’s crowning achievements occurred when American Astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the Moon and uttered the immortal words “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”. The second manned moon mission, Apollo 12, successfully landed on the moon on November 14th of that year. From August 15th to 18th Woodstock attracted more than 350,000 rock-n-roll fans; on January 30th The Beatles gave their final live performance on the roof of the Apple Building in London, England and the release of their album Abbey Road on September 26th was their final album recorded together; Golda Meir of Milwaukee, WI became Prime Minister of Israel; the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) was established;; Richard Nixon became President of the U.S.; Wal-Mart Stores became incorporated and the Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet made its debut. Several ideas have been offered to help celebrate this Anniversary in relation to the Antique Show. The committee would like to have a booth exclusively for the Mackinaw Woman’s Club, to sell items donated by its’ members with proceeds going to the club. These days, many of us who have

acquired antique items from our ancestors now have children and grandchildren who are not the slightest bit interested in inheriting them. What better gift than to donate them to benefit the Woman’s Club. 100 flyers are being printed and 1000 postcards to be distributed to Antique dealers and among other sources. Ads will be placed in the Michigan AAA magazine, the Antique Directory, and the Great Lakes Trader. Kirby Snively will be on hand to provide music for the event. We hope to have a line-up of Antique cars on display in front of the High School. Special t-shirts are being designed and printed. Green and White balloons will be displayed outside the school. A photo board of previous shows will be displayed, and a Chinese Raffle has been suggested for a prize from each of our vendors (hopefully they will agree).

So, we’re off to a running start and with everyone’s help and participation, we can make this 50th Annual Antique Show a huge success.
